Our oldest was the first to speak up noting that they fact some of the talks were given by interpreters was new and changed things a bit, so we discussed that. My son was the next to speak. The seven year old said he needed to work on the sincerity of his prayers. My nine year old daughter said she needed to work on her scripture study. She said several speakers had mentioned that, and she only read a handful of verses yesterday. We talked for about fifteen minutes about scripture study. I explained that I would rather have her read only four or five verses and understand them then read two or three chapters and have her get little out of them. It is about the time and what you get out of it more than the number of chapters or verses read.
My wife and I also added some things we heard and learned from conference, but I was impressed with the way my kids responded. I did not require anyone to say anything but they all chimed in with something useful they noticed about conference. Two of them gave good measures that they could take to better themselves. Sometimes as a parent you wonder how well you are doing as a parent. Experiences like this one mean we must be doing something right.
God bless all parents out there. Not an easy job to say the least.
