I do know that it is the times when chaos has been strongest in my life that I also have felt the peaceful reassurance of the Spirit the strongest in my life. When I was in grade school my parents had gone off to the store in town about twenty miles to the south. While they were gone my older brother and sister were in charge. I saw my little sister Sadie wander off onto the next door neighbor's porch. I got her out of their yard and back into the house. A few hours later when my parents got home we discovered that my baby sister was missing. I think she was three at the time.
I told my mom about what happened earlier, but Sadie was not around the outside of the neighbor's house. It was locked. We searched the neighborhood for a while and find nothing. So the police were called, the bishop came over and a huge town-wide search was planned. This was such a scary and nerve wracking situation. My mom was the most scared I have ever seen in my life, before or since. Then just after we ate dinner, I went up to my mom and told her how worried I was about Sadie. Everything about her had changed. She calmly put her arms around me and said, "Don't worry. She will be okay. I know that she will be all right." At that moment I knew Sadie would be fine. I could feel it. I felt the same kind of cascading peace that my mother must have felt. Later after an extensive search and with a news crew standing by, they found my sister, and she was just fine.
When life is at its scariest, its worst and most tragic, the Spirit is needed more than ever and will respond in kind. The stronger the winds and floods get the more firm the anchor of the spirit will be. So in short I believe that soldiers can find peace on the battlefield because they need that more than ever and I do not believe that the Lord will let them down in their time of need. True peace does not come from our circumstances, but is a gift from on high to help and bless the children of men.
If there are any soldiers that agree or disagree with these statements I would love to hear from you, and hear your stories. Please leave comments below.
