First of all, we don't know that much about him. We know that at one point he was a servant of Laban, but he chose to join Nephi and his family. We also have a great story later about Lehi just before he dies. He calls all of his children and grandchildren together and gives them all blessings. He also calls Zoram and blesses him. Lehi calls Zoram faithful and says that he had been a true friend to Nephi.
Let's stop and think about this for a second. Through all of these years Nephi had been called to do so much. He led his people, hunted food for them and had to deal with dissension from his brothers and brothers in law who tried to kill him. Through all of those trials Nephi, a prophet, had a man who remained faithful remained loyal, a confidante in the first order, a true friend. He had less reason to trust Nephi than anyone else in the camp. Yet he was one of the most faithful. Think of what that meant to Nephi.to have a friend like that when life had to be as difficult as it must have been for him.
As I look at most of the great men of the book of Mormon they are easy to admire, but hard to relate to. I will probably never be a prophet, never be called to build a ship or testify to a king of his wickedness, or defend a king's sheep by cutting off dozens of arms. Those things I will probably never be asked to do. I can be a true friend though. I can remain loyal and true regardless of what trials may present their ugly heads. I like Zoram because he is a great example to me of what I can do and what I can become.
