No matter what we learn in life and what we do if we can keep those things in mind we will be doing OK. Life is about priorities right? One of the great lies of our generation is that you can have everything. Well we can't. We have finite time energy and money. That is reality. Life is about the choices we make and the relationships we make as well. My most important relationship is with the Lord. Then with my wife and then my children.
Now like I said I'm no where near perfect and a few days ago one of my children had not done something I had asked this person to do, so I unwisely raised my voice in asking why it was not done. Even though my words were directed towards my child my wife had said she would do it but was in the middle of plunging the toilet at the time so she responded back to me also in a raised voice. I said that I wasn't talking to her. My daughter said that she couldn't believe her ears that we were yelling at each other. She said she had never heard us fight before. In 11 years she had only heard us fight one time and that was for only thirty seconds. Now I would prefer 0 over one, but not to bad for eleven years.
The key to great relationships in my opinion is understanding that their is a God that loves us and that we have a personal Savior that has a plan for us, and that the same is true of everyone. My wife is a daughter of God and has a spark of divinity in her. If we keep that in mind it can help us through the hard times.
The same is true with our children. They aren't just our children, they are a sacred charge from the King of Heaven, who will be not be pleased if we do not act in the ways we should, but don't let this thought be to daunting. It is a magnificent responsibility but he has promised us his help fulfilling them if we but help.
I can't speak for anyone else, but I my belief in the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and in the Father of All, has made me a better person and husband and father, even I still have a long way to go.
