I know that sounds a bit harsh but that were my thoughts when I was done watching it. So lets go over the plot for anyone who hasn't seen it for more than a decade. It starts out with Malcolm meeting John Hammond's nephew while on his way to see John. We find out that Malcolm went told the press about Jurassic Park violating his nondisclosure agreement so the company InGen sued him and destroyed his credibility. It turns out that Hammond's Nephew was able to wrestle control of the company away from his uncle.
Enter plot hole number one. This requires Dr. Grant and Sadler to say nothing to confirm Malcolm story. I have a hard time believing that. Even though they aren't close to Malcolm, they are good and just people who will want justice for those who were killed at Jurassic Park just like Malcolm.
Malcom meets with John who explains that their is a site B that has dinasours, and that he wants to send a team there to study and observe and that he wants Malcolm on that team. He says no of course but changes his mind when he finds out his girlfriend who is also n the team went down there early and is already on the Island. He agrees of course and his daughter shows up. She sneaks aboard a trailer that is for team because she wants to be with her Father and she has no idea that the destination is an island full of savage dinosaurs. Enter plot hole number 2. No one checks their equipment once while they are still in port or while they are on the ship. No one needs anything from the trailer at all at any point until they reach the Island. I have a hard time believing that. As a general rule I have a hard time with stowaway plots because they are usually done poorly and are just a lazy devise to get someone whop definitely does not belong in a situation into that dangerous situation and this movie is certainly no exception.
Well after they get to the Island they find both Malcolm daughter and Malcolm girlfriend and he is ready to take his daughter back to the boat when they see another, much larger team come to the island. There photragapher who used to work for greenpeace explains to them that Hamond hoped his group would have more time to get photo's and increase public awareness of the dinasours to protect them, but Ingen had planned on sending a team to capture some of the specimens and put them on display at a zoo of sorts in San Diego. But that is why John sent this photographer. It was his mission to sabotuoge the other group.
This is where I start having my most serious problems with the movie. It's not the plot holes that continue to get worse as the movie goes on. No it's the fact that one of the good guys, this Greenpeace idiot causes really all of the problems and deaths in the movie. The first thing that the group does when they hit the island is start capturing dinosaurs. They go after herbavours but some of them are very large herbavours. The green peace idiot lets all of the diansours lose who run arond trampling much of the equipment. As a result most of the people in the hunting paty and one in the scientific party die in the process.
In addition the big game hunting expert has a dream of killing one of the big Tryanasourus Rex bucks. The green peace idiot steals his bullets and when the massive dinasour attacks the group he is forced to tranquilize it instead of kill it. That allows Ingen to have two specimens to bring home. An infant T-rex that they fly to San Diego and the large male that they bring home in a ship.
So here comes the biggest plot hole that I have ever seen in a major hollywood motion picture. The ship crashes in to Sandiego harbor brcause the whole crew has been killed. The problem is that the only dinasour on the ship was the T-rex and he was still in the cargo hold when it crashed. Even if he had escaped he could not have gotten into where the crew was because he is just way to big. So how did the crew die? We may never know. So the big dino runs down the middle of San Diego scarring people and eating dogs. They lure him back onto the ship with the infant and sail him back to the island.
I will admit that there are several plot holes that I didn't adress because It would take to long to address all of them. Besides my main problem with the movies wasn't the plot holes, it was the calous view towards humanity.
If the green peace idiot would have aloud the hunting party to take back specimans to that zoo most likely no humans or dinasours would have been killed and the T-Rex never would have been taken on the boat because the boat would have been filled with the herbavours they had come for and the innocent citizens of San Diego never would have to deal with that giant preditor running through their streets.
Most of the hunting team that gets wiped out apear to be poor people from Costa Rica where the islands are located. They most sertainlyt are just trying to make a living and are not evil in anyway. They hero's could have let the second group take the dinasours and then protested the zoo to try to turn public opinion. they didn't have to turn to sabotauge and ecoterrorism, but the did.
My real problem with the movie isn't the fact that they had an ecoterrorist in it. It is the fact that it seems to support ecoterrorism as a valid way to deal with problems and the movie never recognizes that the Green Peace idiot was the problem and caused so many deaths. Instead all the blame seems to be put on John's Nephews , and the lead hunters shoulder's. Both of them contributed to the problem but they are nop more to blame for all of the death and destruction as the green peace idiot.
