One is the Voldemort type. In the Harry Potter series the main villian is an evil wizard named Voldemort. This class act claims that there is no such thing as good and evil just power and those to weak to seek it. This form of evil attempts to justify their immorality by insisting that morality in any form is a myth that will not deter this person from gaining power. In fact the only real morality is seeking power by any means neccisarry no matter who you have to hurt in the process.
The second type I like to refer as the Osama Bin Laden type. This type holds the first type in utter contempt. The only thing that matters to this type is morality. They have a distorted moral code that says that it is God's will to fly large planes loaded with civilians into civilian targets. This type has a strong belief in doing good they just have a warped view of what that means.
These are really extreme views and very few people are actually evil. To a lesser extent though these views can enter our lives all the time if we let them. We can do things that are not right just because we do not think they are wrong, or we can do them because we think they are the right thing to do. For example some Christians seem to think is just fine to mock and ridicule homosexuals for example because they think that homosexuality is a sin. Anyone who feels this way needs to remember a few facts.
First, Christ was often criticized because he would mingle with the sinners. The Pharisees thought if they mingled with the sinners the sins would rub off on the pharisees themselves. Christ said he needed to meet with the sinners because the whole had no need of a physician. The savior turned away no one who wanted his help. He only seemed to use sharp words with others when they were chastising him or one of his followers. Then it didn't matter if you deserved a tongue lashing you got one no matter who you were. We are all sinners for one thing or another. So all of us are in the same boat. Also Christ said in Mathew that we will be judged with what ever judgement that we use to judge others. We should love others and regardless what we think of others and let the judgement be in the hands of those who can see all and understand all. I guarantee you that that is not me.
This I think really pertains to the political realm. Most Conservatives truly believe they are right and liberals are wrong. Most liberals believe they are right and and conservatives are wrong. Both sides believe that the other side is destroying the nation. It is fine to believe that the other sides beliefs are wrong and even detrimental to the nations future, but remember that most of your neighbors that believe the other way believe that they are doing what's right for America as well. Unless they are planing to do something truly evil like killing people or subjecting people to slavery they aren't evil. Most people on either side are just decent people trying to do what they believe is right. We should not hate those of the other side. We should try to love them and hope they will someday change their mind and start down the correct road.
It is easy to hate but rarely does it profit us anything. Loving people doesn't mean we have to condone everything they do. If they are wrong we have to stand up for what we believe is right. Christ never failed to state the truth but he always showed compassion as well. Let's not forget the woman who was brought to him, who was caught in adultery. The savior first shamed the men by saying he who has no sin let him cast the first stone, and no one could cast the stone. Then he told the woman he would not condemn her and that she should go and sin no more. He didn't condemn her but he didn't say that her sins where forgiven or that she was made whole, both of which he had done on previous occasions. He seemed to imply that forgiveness would be predicated on her further action. In other words his mercy did not save her at that moment. He allowed her the time to change herself though.
Notice one more thing about her accusers. They said she was caught in the act of adultery. Well this way there can be no doubt that she was guilty right? But if so with whom did she have the affair. A couple was not brought before Jesus for judgement, just the woman. .
The point is we need to learn to have love with each of our brothers and sisters. We are all created in the image of God and as such are all children of our Heavenly Father and brothers and sisters. Let us love each other no matter what our individual beliefs are.
