My favorite Christmas was not the year that my parents had a huge windfall and were able to provide more and more expensive Christmas presents than any other year. No, it was the year that my parents taught us all the importance of service. Sometimes we teach our children the most in the little things we do or say.
Let's always love our children, but remember that sometimes we can teach them the most and love them the best when we teach them about the importance of sacrifice. Now, my parents did not manufacture an important life lesson. That usually doesn't turn out well. It comes of fake, primarily because it is. No, they saw an opportunity to serve and to sacrifice, helped us see the importance of helping and seized that golden teaching moment. I love them for it.
Let us all look for those tiny teaching moments that pop all around us It's these organic moments that we can truly have the best moments with our children whether it is at Christmas time or any other time of the year. God bless to all of you parents out there because I know we all need it.
