It goes on to say, "Then peeled the bell more load and deep God is not dead or doth he sleep the wrong shall fail the right prevail." The New Testament gives our answer does it not? We may like like the answer but it is there. We must love our enemies and pray for them that spitefully use us. Now what does that mean? I do not mean that it simply mean we put the people who spitefully use us in our prayers. After all we could pray that someone will be hit by a car, but that I do not think that counts. We need to really pray for the best for people who hate us and want to do us harm. That is hard and is exactly opposite of our natural instincts, but the natural man is an enemy to God as the Book of Mormon says.
We must love our enemies, what does that mean? Jesus was the perfect example of this as he was in every aspect of life. As he hung on the cross he pleaded for mercy from the father on behalf off the men that were carrying out his execution, by saying "Father forgive them for they know not what they do." Could we do that. Plead for mercy on the behalf of our executioners. That is such a difficult thing to even imagine. I honestly don't know if I am capable of such an act of love. Right now I most likely could not. Some day, the hope is that someday I will reach that level.
I cannot change what another does. I cannot change the actions of a rioter or really anyone else, but I can change who I react to it. I can control wether I spread the hate or the love. I chose to spread the love. Both are contagious but in the end the love will win. That is what we must hope for. What we must place our faith in.
