There is a crazy story coming out of Austin Texas that is outrageous. There is a pastor of Church who also happens to be gay that claims he went to a local Whole Foods and picked up a cake had ordered. The cake was supposed to say "love wins," and what it actually said was "love wins, fag." He said he never opened the cake and took a video of the unopened cake. He said he has complained to Whole Foods and they have failed to handle it properly and has brought a law firm on board to handle the case. If this is true, then I hope he wins because nobody should be treated like that, but this case is not that simple.
Even though the pastor showed what looked like an unopened seal on the cake box, Whole Foods is saying that his claims are fraudulent and they have the video to prove it. They have released a video of the register where the Pastor is buying a cake in a box but one of the stickers is in a different location than the sticker is in when the Pastor is showing the box off, proving, Whole Foods claims that the box was tampered with. They also claim that the cake decorator in question is actually a member of the LBGT community.
If Whole Foods' claims prove to be true, this pastor's crimes are as bad if not worse than what he claimed happened to him. To falsely attack a business is bad enough, but to do it in a time like this, where tensions are running so high is inexcusable. I believe in forgiveness and I believe that suing should be done far more rarely than it is, but in this case Whole foods is looking to see what legal options are available and I fully support them in this particular case. If he is making it up, then he needs to be sued. This is the kind of thing that could tear a community apart. This isn't just a difference of opinion. This is fraud and it is dangerous.
I don't know what happened, but when I first heard about this story yesterday, it was before Whole Foods had released the tape and there was no real evidence that the Pastor's case was a fraud, but even then I had a hard time believing a Whole Foods in Austin would do such a thing. Whatever did happen, I hope the truth comes out and justice is done. Now divine justice will be meted out in the end, and we should not worry about that, but if this pastor is a liar that needs to come out in this life and soon so that the reputation of Whole Foods does not suffer because of this. This lie could ruin people. This is libel and has to be stopped.
Hate is an acid that is eating away at our country and eroding our society. It is everywhere, right and left, secular and religious. We need to weed it out and find a little bit of human decency and respect our neighbors.
