Some people say they don't believe in evil, because they don't believe in a supernatural force that perpetrates darkens and causes death an misery. I have a different view of evil. I believe that for what ever reason have excepted darkness in to their hearts and minds. I am not necessarily talking about a supernatural force here. No I mean dark emotions and thoughts, and they have let this darkness take such control of there hearts. They now think and feel in a way that's contrary to basic human emotions. This is evil.
A few days ago a beautiful little girl who had just had her tenth birthday was drugged by her Mom's boyfriend and his female cousin to "relax her". The boyfriend and the cousin then according to the complaint, raped her. One of them strangled her, the other stabbed her. Then they dismembered her body rapped it in a blanket, put the body in the bath tub and set it on fire.
It reminded me of a man which I had always thought was the very embodiment of evil. He raped tortured and killed young boys in the area where I grew up. He was hanged for his crimes. Some tried to stop the execution saying that hanging is cruel and unusual punishment but I never shed a tear.
One of the most disturbing details is that the mother just stood there and watched. She did nothing to aid her own daughter. I don't care if your are out maned and don't have a shot at fighting off the other attackers. I think most women would have died before their daughter. They would have fought tooth and nail. An even better option would have been to go to a near by apartment called for police help and gotten back up. Although I think most parents would have been to consumed by emotion to think rationally. She did nothing to save her daughter.
Why would the mother do nothing? I don't know. But I have an idea. Both her boyfriend and his cousin had extensive criminal records. Even though the mother had no record herself, she must have known that these were dangerous people but she invited them into her home. She invited evil into her home. Perhaps the evil that she allowed into her home crept into her own home. I don't know, but it is never wise to invite evil into your home!
I feel a bit conflicted by this. I feel as a believer in Christ and the concept of forgiveness, that I need to love all men and give all mankind the opportunity to repent. I also believe that we have to protect our children and never do anything to put them in the clutches of evil.
I am not sure where this line is but I know we have to let people repent and change. Please comment and let me know what you think that line is. I also believe that any parent that would stand by and watch this happen to their own child is not worthy of the title of Mom or Dad.
