A while back I checked my e-mail and found a Facebook friend request from a guy I had not seen high school, and to be honest a guy I never really wanted to see again in my life. When I saw I had a friend request from him I literally laughed out loud. He had tormented me in high school, and I had no idea why he was sending me a friend request. I thought about deleting the e-mail without reading but decided to see what he had to say.
What I read was amazing. He apologized for the way he had treated me and seriously asked for my forgiveness. Now I felt a bit guilty for what I had thought just moments before. In his message he said some things that made me wonder if he was a member of the church now.
So I accepted his friend request and sent him a message and asked him if he was a member or was investigating the church. He let me know that he indeed was meeting with the missionaries. A month or so later he let me know of his baptism date. After his baptism I called him, and we talked for a while.
We continued communicating for a while. Eventually I asked him why he was so mean to me when we were growing up, He told me that he had always been told that Mormons were servants of the devil, and you could not be friends with them or you would go to Hell. He also said that he was always taught that all Mormons were nothing but a bunch of racists. Even when he started investigating, he still thought our church was racist and as a result he was leery of joining it. He told me that changed when he saw my profile on Facebook which also had a picture of my wife. He said if I had married a black woman it made no sense that I could have been a racist or belonged to a racist church. This helped him overcome one of his last hurdles in accepting the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and joining Christ's church.
That hit me hard. All I did was open an account on a social media network and the Lord did the rest. He led this guy to my profile, had him message me and apologize. The Lord did everything. I just had to stand by and watch.
I did not mention his name because I did not ask him first, and he very well may be reading this blog.
The Lord is able to do miracles through us if we but let him. The Lord has required more of us now than just setting up an account. Through Elder Bednar we know that we are supposed to add our drops of goodness every day through social media. As our drops are added to millions of other members' drops from all around the world, it will become a flood of goodness and a powerful weapon against the adversary. The other side has been doing a good job flooding darkness across the internet. It is our turn, and we have the King of the heavens and the earth behind us.
So lets go out and flood the world with good, shall we.
