1. The Golden Sate Warriors got their 73rd win to capture the record for most wins in a season. I think most of us NBA fans thought that was an unassailable record, that no one could ever beat the Bulls' 72. Well, we were wrong, weren't we?
2. The 67nd win for the San Antonio Spurs was almost as amazing to me. Obviously no two teams have ever combined for this many wins in a single season, but for Spurs to get this many wins the same year that the Warriors got the record. It gives me shivers. Until the last couple weeks of the season, you couldn't say that the Warriors had it wrapped up because all it would have taken is one serious slide by the Warriors, and the Spurs could have passed them and taken the best record away from them. The success of the Spurs kept the Warriors motivated.
3. In the twilight of his career an NBA legend put down a final game for the ages as Kobe Bryant lit it up for 60! He had had a lackluster season and is really old in NBA years, but before the elder statesman retired he put up an amazing 60 points in his final game.
4. The Portland Trail Blazers secured the 5 seed. Many may not know why this was so significant, but it was. I believe that if the Warriors and Spurs would have had more sane seasons, this story would be much bigger than it is. I actually think that Portland's season is as impressive as Golden State's, and maybe even more so. You see, they also made history. They became the first team in NBA history to return only two players that played more than a thousand minutes and still make the playoffs. Not only did they make the playoffs, they have the same seed that they did last year. Now that is impressive.
Good luck to all the teams in the playoffs, and my best wishes to all of you fans out there.
